Rising economic momentum is contributing to more widespread interest among consumers in buying a car. However, people are also likely to stick with the lessons they learned during the great recession by seeking out vehicle bargains that also feature fuel efficiency.
The popularity of fuel efficient vehicles has risen considerably since gasoline prices exceeded $4 per gallon in the summer of 2008, with help from federal programs such as Cash for Clunkers, which aimed to stimulate the sale of new, cleaner-burning cars.

For example, Ford just announced that its 2011 Mustang V-6 will attempt to do 1,000 laps at Bristol Motor Speedway or about 500 miles, on a single tank of gasoline. The automaker noted that its Ford Fusion hybrid had already driven 1,000 miles on a single tank of gas last year.

Another way to save money is to check one’s poor credit history report before making a purchase to be sure it does not contain negative information that could result in less favorable borrowing terms.
